Southern Migration: Pacific Ocean - Australia
Whale tails or flukes as they are called, identify every whale in the ocean. They are the two lobes that make up the tail. Their black and white pigmentation and scarring create a unique pattern for each whale, similar to the human fingerprint. It is how you can identify a whale year after year. Researchers at the Marine Ecology Research Centre, Southern Cross University, Australia can understand more about whale behaviour using these 'Whale Tales'.
